Menagerie

“Menagerie” is a drama film that is set in the early 1990s in a Serbian village near the river Drina.

It is a testimony to the moral and historic disintegration of a country, set in an environment isolated from the urban way of life, a setting where specific human relations and rules apply. Srna is the daughter of Strain, the most powerful man in the village. She is promised to Ivan, the son of a local park ranger Tadija. In return, Tadija allows Strain to poach and illegally lodge. Even though Srna and Ivan are attracted to each other, they do not wish to marry out of interest, as their fathers are keen to arrange. Suddenly, a former park ranger, Petar, returns to the village. He spent seven years in prison for killing Strain's eldest son. Petar came to find Andja, a woman he loved while living in the village. His return sets in motion a series of events in the lives of the film's main characters, suggesting an uncertain ending.
